If there’s one thing I’m not is a typical “brunch food” person, BUT I do love (and can’t skip) a good breakfast, and on a weekend, you bet it will be closer to lunch hours.
So, this being said, in this post you will be able to find a selection of my favorite places to have breakfast or brunch in Porto. I’ve also included both cheaper and more exclusive places in the list, as well as options for vegetarians/vegans and gluten-free.
First things first! I don’t know about you, but I can’t even begin to think about exploring a city or getting things done without fueling my body first. In Porto we are spoiled with amazing places to eat breakfast or brunch, so here are my recommendations the best places to have breakfast or brunch in Porto:
Hakko Bakehouse is no longer an hidden gem, understandably why. The small, yet enchanting café proves it’s value week after week with amazing new dishes on the menu, while never disappointing in quality. We love it for lunch as well, but we would go for breakfast or lunch, because there’s too many places to try in Porto, and only a few amount of meals per day!
a certain café is the place where good food, amazing coffee & wine come to meet art in all its forms! The cafe is also open for lunch and dinner on certain days, but we would recommend it for breakfast or brunch!
Their slogan is “Average vibe, ordinary food, dinkable coffee” but the reality is that at Protest Kitchen you can find “incredible vibes, immaculate food and excellent coffee”. One of the best in town!
EARLY is an all round great option, both for breakfast, lunch or dinner, but we would definitely start our day here for breakfast or brunch. Their coffee and morning menu is delicious, so that is the perfect excuse to splurge your tastebuds before noon!
NOLA KITCHEN is an established and well loved spot right on the city center, perfect for an early morning bite before exploring around! This café is also laptop friendly, which can be hard to find these days in the city outside of designated co-working spaces, which is great if you just want to quickly do a bit of work.
Terrárea is technically not located in Porto, but in Matosinhos (only a few minutes away by car), but we had to included it because it’s one of our favorites ever! The concept is what makes this place special: have a meal inside a flower shop! Here you can indulge on amazing breakfast and lunch meals surrounded by the amazing smell and beauty of flowers and plants all around. It’s also great if you need a place to work because it’s usually quiet and laptop friendly.
